The Stow-on-the-Wold

STOW has it all: mellow Cotswold Stone, snug tea shops, art galleries, quirky antique shops and a depth of history.  Dating back to the Iron Age, it sits by the Roman Fosse Way, perched 800ft above sea-level, making it the highest town of the Cotswolds.  Stow rose to fame and prosperity through its sheep fairs – it is said that in one 19th Century event alone, 20,000 sheep changed hands.  Most noted for its distinctive square in which markets have been held since the early 11th century.  While you are there, have a look around Scotts of Stow, the mail order home, kitchen and garden company.
